Australian company Expanda Box has showcased its stackable “flat pack” building that offers a practical, adaptable solution to global shelter challenges.
The Expanda Box building can be erected in eight minutes, offering fast, safe deployment to provide shelter for people affected by natural disasters, conflicts and homelessness.
The system is so simple and fast to deploy that it can be deposited in the yards of homeowners affected by natural disasters such as flood and fire, providing instant shelter on their own property.
“Being able to deploy the Expanda Box on someone’s own property after an event means they can still look after their pets, water their garden, take their kids to school the same way and generally remain part of the community in which they have always lived,” said Expanda Box managing director Wayne Loane.
“That is an important consideration in keeping a sense of community after a natural disaster or event.”
Expanda Box is partnered with the Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd. (RAWCS), formed to enable Australian Rotarians, Rotary Districts and Rotary Clubs to assist disadvantaged communities and individuals through humanitarian aid projects.
The system allows corporate companies and individuals to donate towards the cost of building and deploying the Expand Box system, ensuring they are delivered free of charge to the people who need them.
